“Lost dreams awaken and new possibilities arise.”
—Basic Text, page 88
Most of us had dreams when we were young. Whether we dreamed of a dynamic career, a large and loving family, or travels abroad, our dreams often died when our addiction took hold. The vibrant aspirations we once held dear were overshadowed by the relentless pursuit of drugs. Our world became small, confined to the next fix and the fleeting euphoria it promised.
In recovery, however, we find a new reason to hope. The dreams we thought were lost forever can still come true. No matter how old we are or how much our addiction has taken from us, our freedom from active addiction gives us the liberty to pursue our ambitions once more. This renewed sense of hope fuels our journey forward, encouraging us to explore the possibilities that lie ahead.
Recovery not only revives old dreams but also unveils new ones. As we progress, we might discover hidden talents or rekindle interests we had long forgotten. Perhaps we find joy in a new hobby or decide to further our education, realizing the remarkable rewards it can bring. The opportunities for personal growth are boundless, and our past does not dictate our future.
By shifting our focus from excuses to actions, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities. Our energy, once wasted on rationalizing failures, is now directed toward achieving our goals. The foundation of recovery provides the stability and strength needed to reach for success, fulfillment, and satisfaction.
The transformation we undergo in recovery is profound. Where once we were consumed by addiction, now we stand as individuals capable of remarkable achievements. The journey is not without its challenges, but the rewards are immeasurable. By embracing the opportunities presented to us, we can build a life filled with purpose and meaning.
The belief in our ability to succeed is crucial. With every step forward, we build confidence and resilience. We learn to trust ourselves and the process, knowing that each effort brings us closer to realizing our dreams. This newfound belief propels us towards a future where success is not just a possibility but a reality.
Today, we stand at the threshold of a new beginning. Our past does not define us; rather, it has shaped us into resilient, determined individuals. The dreams that once seemed unattainable are now within our grasp. With each day, we move closer to achieving them, guided by the principles of our recovery.
As we embrace this journey, we find that the possibilities are endless. We are capable of more than we ever imagined. The dreams we had as children, the aspirations we held before addiction took hold, are still alive within us. They may have been dormant, but they are not dead. Recovery has given us the opportunity to awaken them and pursue them with renewed vigor.
Starting today, I’ll do whatever I can to realize my dreams. The road may be long, and there will undoubtedly be obstacles, but with the strength of recovery, I am prepared to overcome them. I will take each step with intention, knowing that my dreams are worth the effort. Today, I choose to believe in myself and the boundless possibilities that lie ahead.
